a heavy one.

i woke up having experienced a very distressing dream involving myself and bh.

i wont go into the details but the underlying message was very clear to me when reflecting upon it.

as i lay there thinking over the contents of the nightmare, i realised that it’s 6 months to the day that me, mk1, and mk2, went to the hospice for the final time.

it was truly one of the longest 24 hours of my life (and by far the worst), the memories of which still haunt me, making my heart and soul heavy whenever i am mentally back there, which thankfully happens less and less with each passing month.

then as the dreamstate receded and i got on with the day, i received a call from the probate team.

the outcome of which is that they want to close the case on bh.

i was advised that i had just one more piece of probate admin to do via email and then that was it.

6 months to the day from her death and the process is complete.

if only the emotional fallout was as easy to resolve.

so, today was another dull and grey one.

the highlight was me and mk2 doing the big weekly shop and getting all manner of extras for us to scoff over the next few days.
we had left mk1 at hq studying for an upcoming maths exam, however, as we approached hq laden with newly bought stomach fillers, it was clear that something was going on.
i opened the front door only to be met by an almighty blast of cheese filled tacky david guetta style electronic dance music.

it turned out that mk1 had decided to link up his laptop to the ireallylovemusic soundsystem and perform some tolerance tests of his own.
words were exchanged about the volume, and the cr*p ‘dads out, lets rip’ choice, but mainly the volume, as that kind of rubbish at that volume could have easily blown out the speakers.

of course i know all too well that at times i have stretched the limits of the soundsystem, but i would say that stereo death via a blast of on-u soundsystem is an honourable way to go for any collection of wires and woofers.
mk1 then disappeared back to his lair while i set about sorting out the shopping.
then i realised i was missing a trick.

you see only just last week i held a family meeting during which i suggested that mk1 and mk2 needed to start helping me out with household chores now that i am flying solo.
with this thought in my mind i realised that the laundry that was hanging in the extension needed to be put away or folded up for ironing, and then the washing machine to be emptied.

i entered mk1s lair and advised he had a chore.

the look of horror and fear was all to clear to see, but i held firm.

this is one teen that from hereon needs to be trained in the art of housework.

i owe it to bh to make sure he leaves hq with some level of knowledge as to how to look after himself.

i lead him into the extension where the dry laundry was hung up, and the washing machine full of wet clothes.
i explained what i needed and left him to it.
a few minutes later : ‘i’m done’
i walked into the extension and viewed the damage.
holding onto my bottom lip as hard as i could, i explained that heavy denim jeans all crumpled up are not going to dry that easily, that items need to be opened up, and showed him how to utilise the line, space and hooks etc.
he looked positively enthralled by this session of knowledge transfer.
not.
i then asked him to distribute the items that were not for ironing, and then delicately mentioned doing the ironing.
this boundary testing statement was met with raised eyebrows, an outbreak of sweat and panic, and the phrase :
‘are you asking or telling me ?’

at this point i realised i may have pushed things too far.

luckily he quickly remembered that he had some work he had to be getting on with, and so retreated back into his lair never to be seen again
(well, that is until supper was on the table).

the parenting battle continues.

what a dark miserable grey day.

thankfully, beyond doing the usual parenting chores, and a ton of ironing, i have had little involvement with it as the lads are on half term break and i’m still waiting for my hearing to return.

you see, after years of inactivity, last week i used the ‘my blog is ace’ trick and got a press pass to go see the jim jones revue who are currently touring to promote the release of their new album, the savage heart, which is the bands latest variant of punked up r-n-b, tattoo’d to f*ck rock and roll swagger, and crowd pleasing call-response choruses.

so last night i ventured out into old pastures new..

after a few location based shenanigans, i found the hidden venue.

amazingly the door man had indeed got my name on the list, and so i entered my old world of beautiful young people and grisly old’uns still clinging onto the hope that we can all be saved by a cock sure rock and roll band, and ordered a thirst quenching pint of lemonade.

no details re the gig here, but it was without any doubt, one of the best i have ever been to. literally.

subsequently, the experience has totally re-energised my desire to see more bands live.

i realised that it’s all well and good experiencing a bands output via the ireallylovemusic soundsystem, but nothing beats a band at the height of its powers in live form.

other than that, oh, and the small matter that i now have the confirmed date for the first public outing for the ireallylovemusic archive at my local (more details on this nearer the time, but if you live within the boundaries of my countryside idyll then pencil 8th of december into your diary), there is little to report, which is a good thing.

in case there are folks wondering what’s going on, the simple fact is that the quietness of the blog basically indicates that things are settled.

that’s despite the blown up iron, the f*cked dishwasher (ooooh how i love my dishwasher !), and the tlc that the car required last week.

a good school report for mk2 meant last weeks parent evening was a very enjoyable affair, and put to rest some recent concerns i have been having about mk2 and his anxiety management.

this highlight was then followed by a stunning performance on saturday morning as mk2 once again kept the ball out of goal for most of the match, resulting in the team heading to the top of the league.

not only that, but mk1 seems to have realised the importance of this year academically, and seeing as he is due to sit some heavy duty exams in a few weeks, is knuckling down and facing the challenge.

well, at least that’s what i would like to think he is up to in his pit, which after some stern words earlier this evening, is now after weeks of slackerdom, is once again in a state worthy of a bh inspection.

other than that, the usual hugely enjoyable social excess and not so enjoyable recovery sessions, life at hq is quietly ticking over.

which in my world is a result.

a good result.

first and foremost, can i just send a message of thanks to all those that sent words of support via txt (even the 6:30am one !), facebook, or even hugs as they all helped make today a good day.

i got up, sorted out mk2, sat and watched peppa pig (even at the age of 9, mk2 still likes to chuckle at george), and then kick started the new routine.

i dropped mk2 off at school and headed for the office much later than i used to before expecting the roads to be a little more manageable.

ha.

turns out that thousands of others are still en route to their respective places of money earning.

oh how i have missed the ritualistic form of rush hour traffic kaos, not.

still, despite this, i made it to my desk at the allocated time, and set about getting my machine(s) back up and running, which if any of you have ever switched off a windows based computer for 6 months, know all too well involves multiple updates/restarts etc.

3 hours later all was done, and my computer was ready for action.

by which time it was time to leave and go home.

( joke )

the rest of the day was lovely as it involved catching up with friends, and trying to figure out the changes that have occurred in the last six months

result after an hour or two of "research" : new product names ! a new meeting room ! a few new faces ! umm .. that’s it

and the weird thing, i picked up mk2 and the first thing he asked was how it went at work, as did mk1 as soon as he got home.

they appeared to be actually interested in my day.

in fact the only occupant of ireallylovemusic hq that was clearly miffed with the new situation was killer kat as she has had to endure the ravages of nature all day and not been able to get inside and snuggle up inside one of our pits.

oh the horror.

as i said, a good day.

well, after another mad weekend of mk2 playing football, gardening, social excess and recovery, today is the last day before i head back to the world of office based demands.

and how did i celebrate such an auspicious occasion ?

– insect day for mk2 (aka inset day) meant i had a small fella on my case all day.

– paperwork.

– ironing.

– food shopping.

– trip to the recycling tip.

– popcorn + film.

– computer admin for mk1.

– sober.

been quite pleasant actually.

of course i am a little anxious as to how i am going to feel doing the work thing, but i guess i have to accept that a life of sofa based boredom does have its limitations.
